Our Artist Ambassador to Macedonia Mrs. Esma Redzepova Teodosievska
Esma Redzepova Teodosievska is born on 8th August 1943 in Skopje, Macedonia, from father Ibraimand mother Canija, as fifth child from six her parents had. As a child she was interested in art, so the biggest joy for her was going to the cinema and theatre. She started her education in Primary school “Goce Delchev”, where she recognized for the first time, than she is different from the others, because the girls ignore her, because she is Gypsy and no body liked to sit in a same desk with her. But with a help of the teacher this barrier was broken down. In the school Esma for the first time saw that there is a Red Cross organization , an institution which support poor people. From the Red Cross, she took as a present a scarf, gloves and a pair of socks. That made a little girl very happy, and she promised her self that one day if she would have something more than she needs she’ll help people, who need help. Esma started her carrier when she was a school girl. First she performed in all school events, and one day she was nominated by the Principal of the school to represent the school on one very popular radio show called “The microphone is yours”, organized by radio Skopje. That was in 1957 and Esma took the first award on the competition. Big sum of money were given to her, but in that time of happiness she was very upset, because she didn’t tell her parents where she is going, and she felt afraid to tell them, and felt afraid too, that her mother would found the award money. At the end that happened, Esma told the truth to her family. On that competition she was seen by Stevo Teodosievski, very famous musician and composer, who worked in Radio Skopje. He was fascinated from her voice, and came to her house asking their parents to allow her to be his student and a member of Ensemble Teodosievski. This is a start of one very, very rich carrier, which is continuing more then 50 years. Her carrier grow up very rapidly and she became very famous all over the World. In 1960 she performed in Paris Olympia . In 1958 she recorded the first record, with the legendary song “Zoshto si me majko rodila”, and after that her greatest hit “Chaje Shukarije’ In 1976 in India, in a city of Chandigarh, on the First Gypsy World Festival, she was crowed in the Queen of Gypsy music in the World, the certificate was given by Indira Gandi. Esma has been awarded with many, many awards and certificates: She has been awarded two times with medals for presenting the culture by the President of SFRY Josip Broz Tito. 1969 the silver medal, in 1971 gold medal. Award from the City of Belgrade , together with Stevo Teodosievski 1975 Honor Ambassador of UNICEF 1981 The award of City of Skopje 13 November 1991 Honor Ambassador of The first children Embassy Medzshi 1995 Gold Medal Dignity member of Macedonian Red Cross 1993 In 1995 in Frankfurt she was promovide in Prima Donna of European singing In 2001 in Moscow promovide in the Millenium singer Honor Academism on Norwegian Academy of science and art 2005 Woman of the year in Macedonia 2002 Honor citizen of the Municipality of Katerini in Greece 2004 The Minister of culture in World Roma Organization Amongst this great number of awards, Esma still continue to present with dignity in the World the R. Macedonia, a country she is coming from . During her carrier she has been performed in at about 20.000 concerts, from this number one third are given in charity. She is active participator in one big project “Gypsy Queens and Kings”, where she represents Macedonia. During her 53 years carrier she has been recorded at about 1.000 songs, on many of them she is an author of music and lyrics. She has been published 659 records, cassettes, Cd’s, for the most representative production houses, such as “World Connection”, “Asphalt Tango”, “Network Medien”, etc… Esma’s album, “The Queen of the Gypsies”, published by World Connection, was selected in top 20 in a choice of World music. Parallel of her reach music carrier, Esma is well known as a human woman. She, together with her husband Stevo Teodosievski have adopted 47 children, offering them her home . Also she is a donor, who support the scholarship for poor children, who are good pupil and don’t have their own money to continue the education. She supports several hospitals such as the biggest hospital in Macedonia for children with retardations, “Demir Kapija”. During the Kosovo crisis her home was wildly opened to protect the refuges who need help, don’t taking care of the nationality. At the moment Esma works on finishing her own house, who, as her wish is and her husband whish was will be “Home of humanity and museum of music Esma and Stevo Teodosievski, a place where will be shown all their awards, in one word all their lifes. After her dead it will be donated to the City of Skopje and R. Macedonia.
I'm deeply honored to welcome Mrs. Redzepova to the WPMP Artist Ambassador's roster. She is a legendary artist who joins our project at the precise moment when the Worldwide Peace Marker Project has reached its Tipping point. Meaning that, our project is no longer a dream of fancy but rather a reality taken shape in the experience of the early majority of the worlds population. Therefore, Mrs.Redzepova's presence greatly adds to significance and the progress of the world's first global work of art at this very important moment in history. Tiité June 20, 2010 |
