| Just five days after this wonderful celebration of the unveiling of Peace
Marker Lebanon, war broke out between Israel and the Hezbollah fighters, what
ensued was a month long rampage of destruction that ended on a cease fire on
August 14, 2006. The world will begin to review the events and make the usual pronouncements according to the different points of view, historians will record the deeds and add to the age old library of war a new chapter filled with the intensity of the destruction, the loss of life and the political intrigue that will justify the carnage. Once I lift my eyes from that landscape and recover from the sadness that engulfs my spirit from having witnessed another instance of humanity so diligently engaged in repeating the past, once again planting the seeds of hatred in yet another generation of victims. Such is the path of war in civilization and such is the cruelty of war as a way of life which in order to survive must perpetuate itself by renewal through violence and destruction. This latest renewal follows an uninterrupted history of warfare in human civilization that is thousands of years old. I firmly belief that humanity would transgress war once civilization is given an option, the terrible events that occurred in the Middle East and the presence of Peace Marker Lebanon at the same time support the idea that an option to war is already present and taking hold even in the midst of war. WPMP is a work of art, but its design as art reconciled with life makes it a contrasting reality that cannot be pulled apart from the reality of the events in the Middle East. The presence of WPMP artist ambassador to Lebanon Mrs. Salwa Zeidan added the substance to the claim not just by her heroic actions providing personal and material support of food and clothing to people displaced by the war, but her exemplary stand for world peace as the option that she herself had just presented to Lebanon and to the world. Her endurance through the harsh conditions imposed by the war made her a role model that elicited the admiration and support of WPMP ambassadors from Germany, Bosnia i Herzegovina, the U.S., Cambodia, Turkey, Japan and Angola. That voice of international support was at her side from day one, unlike the reserved voice of the world that stood still in the familiar stupor that accompanies war. Amidst the orchestration of a familiar nightmare there was something extraordinary occurring at the same time, something so subtle that was noticed only by a few close observers , something that changed the landscape of war for ever. Ambassador Zeidan had created the perfect environment for it to happen and war did the rest to bring it to the surface. I'm referring to the fact that Peace Marker Lebanon had been installed officially on July 7, 2002 as a marker to the presence of world peace within the nation of Lebanon and declared by ambassador Zeidan as a point of peace in the world as part of the first comprehensive model of world peace in the history of humanity. so far one of seven in existence on a continued aggregation that will total 198 nations. That can only mean that the presence of world peace and of war at the same time provides evidence to the thesis that peace can be made to exist independent of war. That is case here and the evidence is supported by the presence of world peace in six other sovereign nations. Therefore the consequences are incalculable as this had never before been recorded in the history of humanity. Peace is no longer some symbolic illusion waiting for humanity at the end of life or a trophy brought home by a victorious army. World peace is emerging as an independent entity and presenting itself as complementary option to war, their mutual relationship capable to bring stability to human aggression. The sort term of this profound accomplishment is that from this first day of the cease fire on August 14, 2006 to the eyes of history and of the world, no nation or combatant group can ever again declare war in the name of peace. Peace is now independent from war and cannot be forced to be an unwilling partner to violence again. As the combatants in this latest tragedy to humanity retrieve their forces and the soldiers return home, little do they know that a victory was attained as a result of this bloody war which in an unexpected sort of way, ushered forth the presence of world peace. I will like to suggest that we think of this dark experience as a sacrifice that mark a new milestone in human history. A time when world peace became visible to the sights of war. in a way, to the eyes of history all of the victims may have contributed their lives to the liberation of peace. |
